On Saturday March 28th, 2009 Prof. Janusz Skowron from Krakow Poland will be performing a recital at Trinity United Church in Peterborough. Skowron was born in Krakow, Poland. After receiving his maters from the Academy of Music in Krakow, he went to Post Graduate studies at the Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst Vienna, Austria.

Mr. Skowron has participated in major competitions including the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition and the Dino Ciani International Piano Competition in Milan, Italy. He has been a winner at the National Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland.

Mr. Skowron has performed extensively in concert halls throughout Europe and North America including, Carnegie Hall, Chicago Cultural Centre, International Music Festival Pitarsaari, Finland, among others.

Mr. Skowron is currently Professor of Piano at the Academy of Music in Krakow after having taught at University of Western Ontario, Algoma University, and the Musik Koservatoria in Jakobstad, Finland.

Mr. Skowron will be joined by our very own cellist Mateusz Swoboda. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music in cello performance from the University of Toronto, Mateusz continued his studies in the USA (Shenandoah University) and Europe (Amsterdam Conservatory).

Following this, Mateusz pursued a freelance career in Canada playing regularly with the London, Thunder Bay and Oshawa Symphonies. During this time he toured extensively with various groups including cello12 (South America) and the Tabaret Ensemble (China) as well as starting his own chamber music series, 'metamorphosis.'

In 2005 Mateusz won a contract as principal cello of the newly created Hyogo Performing Arts Centre Orchestra in the Hyogo prefecture of Japan. After many interesting cultural and musical experiences, Mateusz returned to Canada where he is currently performing with various ensembles in Ontario including the Windsor Symphony, Sinfonia Toronto, Oshawa Symphony, Niagara Symphony among others; as well as teaching the next generation of Canadian music lovers .

Mr. Skowron will be performing selections from the repertoire for piano solo, including Beethoven's "Sonata - "15 Variations and Fugue, op 35 "Eroica," Chopin Ballades-G minor and A flat major. Mr. Swoboda will join him for Beethoven's Sonata No. 3 op. 69 in A major for piano and cello.
