ACCADEMIA MUSICA is a private music instruction program founded in 1988 in Peterborough, Ontario by violin/piano duo Witold and Ewa Swoboda. The program offers high quality private music instruction for Kawartha area students of all levels. Beginners as young as age 3 are taught a program based on the Suzuki method and philosophy, while more advanced students often choose to work towards all levels of Royal Conservatory exams up to the ARCT. The chamber music program for strings is an integral part of the students musical development and takes place in the form of bi-monthly group lessons with Mr. Swoboda. Students who do set a RCM exam as a goal can study theory, history of music and ear trainining with Mrs. Swoboda on an individual basis. All students regardless of age have the opportunity to perform in monthly recitals. In addition, many performances occur in the community at such events as the Festival of Trees, Peterborough Symphony Orchestra concerts and various fundraising events. For the past 15 years, students of Accademia Musica have represented Peterborough at the Provincial Music Competitions in the string and piano categories, many times winning in their respective classes.
